Electric vehicles are fast evolving as the future of the transportation industry. It’s only a matter of time before they become the worldwide standard.
This course is designed for anyone in the industry looking forward. Whether you’re a car manufacturer, charging station operator, e-mobility service provider, supplier, or researcher – if your goal is to use promising new technologies to innovate within this field, you’ve come to the right place.
This four-part course teaches you the fundamentals of the ISO 15118 standard’s promising Plug & Charge feature. Plug & Charge automates and secures communication between electric vehicles and charging stations based on digital certificates. Tamper-free charging and billing occur autonomously – without the need for additional user-steps like RFID cards or smartphone apps.
As one of the co-authors of the international ISO 15118 Vehicle-to-Grid standard, I used it to develop my free RISE V2G software. Since publication on GitHub in 2015, RISE V2G has evolved as a highly appreciated solution by companies and research institutions worldwide. In this course, we’ll walk step-by-step through the install and launch of RISE V2G and Plug & Charge on your computer or embedded hardware device.
RISE V2G is the only open-source implementation of the ISO 15118 standard. Join me to use its potential to drastically accelerate growth of the global electric vehicle market.
Eager to find out more about ISO 15118 and how you can adapt RISE V2G to your own product line? Then take a look at the advanced course Master the Communication for Charging Electric Vehicles.
The real power of ISO 15118 comes with its secure and user-convenient Plug & Charge feature. Learn more about Data Security and Plug & Charge With ISO 15118 in this in-depth course bundle.
RISE V2G has accelerated the implementation of ISO 15118 Plug & Charge in our backend. With open sources and compatible licensing, it can be a future-proof building block of our software. Conversely, we can share our experience with the V2G community and help design a reference implementation.
We are an R&D company specializing on electric mobility and high efficiency Silicon Carbide charging systems. Thanks to RISE V2G, we were able to develop our own solution for DIN SPEC 70121 and ISO 15118 communication in just a couple of months. The knowledge offered by V2G Clarity, like the ISO 15118 Manual and the RISE V2G software, really helped to better understand the standard.
What Marc has done is meaningful to the world. It not only decreases the difficulty to implement the brand-new Combined Charging System, but also increases the efficiency by which innovative charging infrastructure can be built for the upcoming EV era. Thanks to RISE V2G, I have a feeling smart grid technology innovations will become a reality around the world in the years to come. I believe this achievement is a historical milestone and will be appreciated and utilized from one generation to another.
RISE V2G is a practical technology that helps to develop charging devices that meet the international ISO 15118 standard. In addition, the explanations given via email and in his ISO 15118 Manual tremendously minimize the developers’ confusion about the difficult parts of the international standard itself. His products and services are an excellent and well-appreciated resource.
As a 1st tier supplier of several automotive OEMs (e.g. VW, Daimler, Porsche, BMW, Audi) we develop various electronic control units, including OnBoard-Chargers (AC / DC). Due to the high effort to set up this EVSE simulation, however, I decided to deploy RISE V2G to a RaspberryPi, which is an affordable system-on-chip Linux system. A QCA7000 chip is connected via SPI to the RaspberryPi. RISE V2G is running in parallel with Oracle Java for the ISO 15118 communication. This significantly reduces our costs and scales way better to set up various test sites across our department.
Over the last decade, I have become a recognized e-mobility expert after developing
the widely-used RISE V2G software and co-authoring the ISO 15118 and related
international standards. I now work with companies and research institutions across the globe to integrate RISE
V2G and ISO 15118’s promising Plug & Charge feature into their products and
While I was working on my Ph.D. in computer science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), I became a member of the prestigious German DIN standardization committee. Since then, my mission has been to help bring convenient, secure, and user-friendly electric vehicle charging to a global audience.
I genuinely believe ISO 15118 and Plug & Charge will transform electric vehicle charging. With this course, my “ISO 15118 Manual” eBook, and my consulting within the industry, I hope to contribute to making this vision a reality. Join me in driving the electric vehicle market forward to revolutionize the future of worldwide transportation.
